I phoned in for a price inquiry on a pair of eyeglasses that my friend had purchased there because he lost his glasses and I would like to replace them for him. Rebecca stayed I would need to come in for that.

I did not like her answer and I did not like her tone. She was extremely rude and aggressive. She stated that she does customer service and insurance only.That may be true however I then asked her to transfer me to the person who can do that. She repeated you need to come in.

Honestly I myself went to my optometrist many years and at times when they had gotten busy they would ask can we give you a call with that information after we're done with this appointment.

I don't know how difficult it would be to be polite and accomplish doing your job? Personally I will not purchase from the Jensen beach optometrist when there are so many awesome optical shops who have pleasant people working there!

Bought glasses last year and lens material are the worst I have ever seen since dealing with this company.The lens are the worst plastic kind they are so scratchy that I cant see through the left lens and was told by the worker in the store that I am doing all the right things by cleaning it but if I need to replace then I would have to pay.My concern is why use material that is so low graded that I need to change within a year?

Very Poor Experience @ Cohens, Roosevelt Field

I went to Cohens Fashion Opticals Garden City location (in Roosevelt Field Mall) for an eye exam and purchased a new pair of glasses. I've been going to Cohens for a long time and I can tell you that after my most recent experience, I will never go back.

The doctor I saw didn't seem to care much when I was telling her the issues I'm experiencing with my vision.

After seeing the optician, I went to check out their frames and was introduced to "Mike" who tried to sell me cheap and poor quality frames for $750. (These are the same quality glasses that you can buy at Costco for $200 to $300). I was then shown the value frames section (overpriced cheap plastic frames) from which I selected my glasses.

The store had the glasses ready in about an hour (which was nice) but that's when things got worse. I don't know who messed up, but those glasses did not feel natural or comfortable at all.

Everything was magnified and in 4K/High Definition (HD). I was going cross eyed and felt very uncomfortable.

I don't know what the store did. I left the glasses with them and said I would come back to see the doctor and hopefully get the situation fixed, which I did. When I went back, the doctor said the prescription was fine.

I then spoke with the glasses technician about adjustments to the prescription, which were done.

However, I was still experiencing the same problem. The glasses were too strong. Everything was in magnified 4k/HD mode, which isn't the way glasses are supposed to feel. Everything was also way too bright.

Long story short, I asked for a refund, which the sales associate refused to give me.

They also refused to issue me a credit that I can use at another Cohens Fashion Optical store (which I have never heard of).

I was extremely upset so I left the store and left the glasses with them because I couldn't use them based on how poorly Cohens had prepared them.

I then contacted my credit card company to dispute the charge but instead of just issuing a refund, the credit card company made things worse after the merchant responded to my charge dispute stating they "do not issue refunds." I am now filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and will file a complaint with the Department of Consumer Affairs because this company cannot really be charging people for eyeglasses that they cannot use or see properly with. I am also reporting my credit card company to the Federal Trade Commission's Consumer Finance Protection Bureau because they don't seem to know that their responsibility is to the cardholder, not some conniving merchant.

Below is my review in 2019. An update since 2019:
As suggested by the below Cohen agent, Ms Chrissy S, I emailed her right away and then a couple more times afterwards, but in vain.
Again, to this date, September 19, 2021, I still have NOT received the balance due, about $420, that Cohen owns me from the court case I won against Cohen in 2013.

Yes, 2013, Eight years ago!!!!

and Cohen still owns me the balance as of to date, 9.23.2019.

Cheating - gift cards not accepted

I purchased gift cards few years ago. All were bought from 1 store because it was very close to my office (545, 5th ave, NY, NY 10017).

I wanted to use them to gift my loved ones as everyone needs glasses and can get them of their choice.

During the time of purchase, I verified, and the customer rep said the dont expire and will be honored at any Cohens location. Recently last year and this year when I tried do use them I was told they cannot accept it because they are too old. The franchise owner is new etc. I pursued this with corporate office and a person once replied saying they will get back but never did.

I followed up 7 times (both email and voice) but no response.

This year I again used it and my near by location accepted it but when I went back they said they cannot accept it because they were unable to get it back even my last gift cards. I contacted the customer service and Laura Valentino the customer rep investigated the matter and felt like it was getting somewhere but again the matter was left and no response. I left 23 voice mgs, 18 mgs /follow up but no response at all. The last response I received was on 6/22/2021 and was told we are looking and have not found records of these purchases.

This issue has also caused rift between my personal relationships with my friends and family where I had gifted them but in turn, they was unable to use it but at one Bronx store my cousin was called fraud.

Its only when they came and told me I became aware that these gift cards are not being honored. I went back to some of them where I gifted and found one other friend was unable to use. I was too embarrassed to go and check with others.

I have been very patient and have spent a lot of time trying to resolve.

I will be filing complaint in consumer court and also at BBB.

If Cohens is unable to honor simplest of products they sell, they should close down. I will not hesitate to call the brand CHEAP, FRAUD, DISHONEST, and NO ETHICS.

Issues

I went to Cohens thru my health insurance to have my eyes examined. After the exam they told me I need blue light on my lens, they said everything was covered thru my insurance except the blue light they said I need on my lens, they said this will be $250.

After I thought about it 2 days later I decided I didnt want the glasses, I called the store and told them and the manager told me the dont do refunds, I told them this was not said to me before I made the purchase, she apologized and said she would upgrade my frame I said no I rather a refund. I reached out to my credit card company and started a dispute, they were unable to assist after they the meet said they dont do refunds.

I reached out to my insurance company to see if they could assist and they said they dont see where I had an exam with Cohens Fashion Optical, they asked for the address I told them and they said that they have a bill from another company called Staten Island Vision, this company billed my insurance for the visit and the frame and Cohens billed me for the lens. My insurance company said that this is like doing fraudulent business because they used two company names to get money from a customer

All I want is my $250 refunded

Cohen's store still didn't contact me back. The problem didn't get resolve.

I purchase eye glasses (consider health care service) from this store. They scam me by saying they will give me $100 off from their glasses frame in the store.

The frame is $399 with $100 off is $299. A day later I found out that glasses frame is normally sell in another store for $49-$59. I went back and ask Cohen's to return but they said they can only give me a store credit plus the staff was very rude with an attitude. They probably use this trick to so many consumers.

I want to get a refund but they refuse even I have a proof of them selling overprice stuff. I think I have right to defend myself from being take advantage from the store.

I would like to review this illegal crime that Cohen's Fashion Optical selling overprice health care service and reject to refund the consumer when the good/services not as expected.

The bad guy remain open because Cohen's own by big company. They still trick people and many of them just let it go and don't fight back.

It is so sad and I tried my best to get my right back, I reported to consumer affair, none profit organization, credit card company, etc. None of them won't be able to help me because they don't want to deal with the big guy.

The same thing happened to my boyfriend. They tried to overprice glasses and state that his insurance would only cover $40.

Mind you he has great insurance and even added more money to his policy so that he could benefit from purchasing cheaper frames and lenses. He has a policy from Home Depot and he is an ASM! He immediately refused to purchase frames.

They need to be closed down. People Do not purchase glasses at Cohen's.

The cohens in West Hempstead ny is the worst store. They gave my glasses to someone else & insisted to my wife that they gave them to me.

It was impossible for that to have taken place because I was away for work with no glasses mind you. On my way home I stopped in n the nasty older woman told me that the girl gave them to me. After a back n forth telling them that I never picked them up,they proceeded to tell me that this never happened before & they would have to look on the store films. Never apologized to me or the way she was so arrogant to my wife the day before.

They gave me a temporary pair for now. I will never ever be back to that store ever again after I get my glasses.

I had an issue with your employee over a price

I went in to pay what I thought was final payment of $400 on $869 glasses. The woman said I owed a total of $869....I became angry because the first time after my examination she marked the glasses and I payed $100 down.

She showed me what I thought was the total. And I asked specifically at least 3 time that day after the examination 5/28/2020...$400 dollars is all I owed on my end of the total $869 she said yes. I even asked everytime I came in when I made a $100 dollar payment and she said yes......on myv3rd payment just one of the employees was there and I didnt bother asking anymore. Well I became angry because I felt like she lied to me.

She never gave me her version of the total until today 7/8/2020. Then there was another customer trying to get involved in our business and I told him it was none of his concern. She even askEd him not to get involved! Then as I turned around the other customer and I made eye contact and then he said it will knock you the *** out.

And your employee said to call the police and I said yes call them. She had threatened to call the police on me because I became angry. I raised my voice....because she lied to me about the price of my glasses and didnt inform me that they were over $1000.....that didnt come into play until I said which I made the statement several times of my final payment of $400 then I can pick up my glasses and she said yes. Very clearly!

And now she says no she didnt! Ive come in for about six weeks to make payments and even called them to let them know what I was doing......at no time was I informed about the cost being over $1000
